The annual Port Dalhousie carnival was held this week in Lakeshore park. Tadhg loved it last year when he won lots of inflatable superheroes in the carnival games. Sadhbh was too small to enjoy it last year but was very interested in the rides and prizes this year.
Tadhg went on all the rides and especially loved the giant slide although it got very hot during the midday sun and had to be shutdown for a while. He also enjoyed playing the carnival games once again and added an Incredible Hulk to his inflatable superhero collection. He also won a Pokemon toy and was very interested in learning more about Pokemon.
Thursday marked the summer solstice and the midsummer party on Port Dalhousie beach. Tadhg and Sadhbh loved the drumming and dancing last year and so were interested to see what this year's party would bring. The beach was already packed when they arrived soon after dinner. Everyone was in a party mood, dancing to the music and watching the sun sink lower in the sky.
When the sun set a loud cheer went up from the crowd on the beach to mark the mid-point of the year. Mom and Sadhbh went home early. Tadhg and dad stayed longer to join in the celebrations. Tadhg even managed to strip down to his boxers and went for a swim in the lake. It was a perfect evening on the beautiful Port Dalhousie beach.
The Canadian summer has been beautiful, warm and sunny so far. Mom and dad want Tadhg and Sadhbh to be able to spend more time playing in the garden and so got a sandbox for them to play in. Tadhg and dad put on their construction hats to put together the sandbox.
Once it was ready and filled with sand, Tadhg jumped in and buried himself up to his neck!
Sadhbh liked scrunching her toes through the sand and playing together with her big brother. Luckily the sandbox has a parasol to keep them shaded from the hot sun.
The 2012 European Football (soccer) Championship (Euro 2012) kick off last Friday but Ireland's first game was on Sunday. Tadhg, Sadhbh, mom and dad were excited for the tournament to finally start but couldn't wait for Ireland's first match against Croatia. It was a somewhat conflicted game considering mom's Croatian heritage but everyone wore green and supported the Irish. After the pre-match warmup, Tadhg and Sadhbh stayed with baba and papa so mom and dad could enjoy the match in true Irish style. Unfortunately Ireland lost 3-1 in their first appearance in a European Championship since 1988. Now on to the next game against the reigning World and European Champions Spain!
Tadhg is old enough now to start doing jobs around the house to earn pocket money. Dad made up a jobs chart for Tadhg to track his work each day. Tadhg needed something to hold all of his money so mom and dad got him a cool piggy bank. Tadhg was excited to start saving. Who knows what he will spend his money on?
