Tadhg the chef

Tadhg loves helping mom and dad in the kitchen, especially when cookies are being prepared. On Saturday everyone decided to have lots of veggies and dad and Tadhg prepared brussel sprouts which is always fun. Tadhg was a great help during the preparation but unfortunately didn't eat very many of them.

Tadhg the stag king

One of Tadhg's favourite restaurants in St Catharines is Montanas Cookhouse. Although it is primarily a steakhouse and is famous for it's ribs, it actually has a good selection of vegetarian options. Tadhg loves it for the moose and deer heads on the walls, the car hanging over the bar, the mini-library for kids, the crayons and drawing paper on the tables and the stag antler hat. Tadhg often visits Montanas with Baba and Papa when they come to visit.

Tadhg makes St Patrick's day cookies

St. Patricks day fell on a Thursday during Spring Break this year which was also dad's last week before starting his new job. Tadhg received a St Patrick's day care pack from his Irish grandparents and so had a choice of t-shirts to wear as well as badges, stickers and a book of Irish fairy tales. Tadhg decided to wear the leprechaun shirt to celebrate the national holiday of Ireland.

Tadhg and dad went to the playcentre in the morning for a shamrock game. In the afternoon, Tadhg and dad made some special St. Patrick's day cookies in shamrock shapes. Tadhg had a great time rolling the dough and using the cutter to make the special shapes. He had an even better time eating the cookies once they were ready.

Tadhg ended the day in Baba's house where mom shared his cookies with her friends to celebrate the special day.

Tadhg meets Max and Ruby

Tadhg's favourite TV show since even before moving to Canada is Max and Ruby. This show is about two rabbits, Ruby and her little brother Max, and the many adventures they have around their house and with their friends. Tadhg loves the show and is always excited when it comes on. Mom discovered that the Max and Ruby stage show was coming to town and so bought tickets for the whole family. Saturday was the big day for Tadhg when everyone drove to nearby Hamilton for the show.

The theatre was packed with toddlers and their parents eagerly awaiting their heroes to appear on stage. Tadhg was amazed when the life-size rabbits finally made their entrance. He was enthralled by the show but wanted to go on stage to say 'Hello' to his small-screen idols. The show was about 1 hour long and the kids had a great time.

On the way out mom and dad bought Tadhg a flashing Max and Ruby wand to make up for not getting to say 'Hello'. Tadhg had a tremendous time and mom and dad thought the look on his face alone was worth the entrance price.

Tadhg learns about his new home town

On Tuesday Tadhg and dad visited the St Catharines Museum to learn about their new home town. The museum was especially interesting for Tadhg as it had a special toy exhibit on showing toys from all over the world. Tadhg enjoyed the marble maze.
He also had great fun searching through the mystery toy area trying to identify the hidden toys in the colourful boxes.

The museum also doubles as the Lacrosse hall of fame where Tadhg and dad learned all about the game from it's origins as a native Canadian sport to the present day. Tadhg was able to practice his lacrosse skills in the indoor play area.
Then it was on to the pioneer life section where Tadhg and dad learned how the first pioneers to Canada lived. Tadhg enjoyed wearing a pioneer hat and playing pioneer games.

The final section of the museum is dedicated to the famous Welland canal which connects the great lakes and traverses the Niagara escarpment. Tadhg had great fun being captain and navigator on a 'laker' boat while dad learned how the original canal was built by mainly Irish workers. It was a great day out and Tadhg and dad left with an added appreciation for their new home.
